About the Widows’ Home Building Project
Our current project is to build a widows’ home which will provide housing for a group of widows in the lowest social caste in a very poor area near the east coast of India. The widows are isolated and homeless, in an Indian state where there is great discrimination against widows. The property for the home has been purchased and we are ready to lay the foundation. Read more about the widows and the home below – go to this page if you want to contribute to building the home.
Architecture designs and building plans have been developed for the home, and the project has been divided into five separate phases, with the first phase planned for this year (2017). The entire homebuilding project is estimated to cost around $230,000. The first phase will include the leveling of the property, sinking of the foundation and support pillars for the outer walls, and laying of the foundation itself. We are currently raising funds to complete this phase and to plan for subsequent phases. As of this date, we have raised over $55,000 through generous contributions, but we still need to raise an additional $10,000 to begin building the foundation for the widows’ home. Any help you can offer in the way of financial contributions would be greatly appreciated!
